EVC3 Partnership Companies Join Hands to Supply Conductive Power Control Stations for Ford USPS Project

Detroit, MI, July 10, 2000 – The Electric Vehicle Conductive Charging Coalition announced today that member companies, EVI and AVCON, joined hands in supplying the charging infrastructure to support the USPS Electric Carrier Route Vehicle (ECRV) program that was awarded to Ford Motor Company earlier this year. The first installation at Fountain Valley Post Office in Fountain Valley, CA. will be unveiled for customer acceptance test on July 11, 2000.

EVI® acted as the system integrator of the PCS for the USPS application. It will deliver up to 270 of its newly designed DCS-55 dual charge stations to support the first 500 ECRVs. The DCS-55 dual charging stations operate off a single 50 Amp circuit, and are loaded with advanced features that were only available on more expensive units previously, e.g. adjustable charge start time, cold load pick-up, self-diagnostics etc. The units will have the option to charge two vehicles simultaneously, or sequentially. The unique pedestal and charge connectors are supplied by AVCON.

“The EVC3 partnership companies really came through for the USPS project,” said Bruce Kopf, director of Ford Motor Company's TH!NK Technologies. “The combined effort takes the flexibility and cost effectiveness of conductive charging technology to a new plateau. This new design is suitable for other fleet applications as well.”

Conductive charging is safe, efficient and the most cost-effective method for charging electric vehicles. Its architecture is simple, and yet flexible for easy adaptation to different power grid systems worldwide. Designed for high reliability and ease of service, conductive charging equipment requires no expensive diagnostic equipment, special service tools or specialized training for service technicians.

EVC3 members meet regularly to address issues regarding conductive charging and the overall EV infrastructure. Membership is open worldwide to those stakeholders who have an interest in advancing conductive charging technology for EV charging.
