Mary
DeGraaf, is a dear friend of ours that is fighting Breast
Cancer. She and her family are life long Auburn California residents.
Mary attended Placer high School as does now her son, Justin. Justin
attended Rock Creek Elementary, Auburn Elementary and E. V. Cain
Schools in Auburn. Mary has also been a supportive parent in our
Auburn Little League program that Justin played in for nine years.
He also played on the Placer High Freshman Football Team.
A group of parents
from Auburn Elementary, E. V. Cain, Placer High and Auburn Little
League have come together to assist Mary in her struggle with Breast
Cancer. We are holding several fund raisers to help her financially
while she goes through the various stages of surgery, chemotherapy
and radiation.

Her Story
|
Researching all available programs, Mary found the Breast
Cancer Prevention Program would take care of expenses accrued
from her surgery, required medications, chemo, radiation therapy,
etc.. She signed up for the program on December 27, 2002 and on
December 31, 2002 it was discontinued. But because she signed up
before it dissolved, she gets the surgery and medical expenses paid
for.
The surgery on February
3, 2003, was successful! The breast cancer was removed and the lymph
glands removed were negative for cancer. What joy we all celebrated!
For additional preventative precautions, those of us who have gone
through the heartache of cancer or have had friends or family members
that have, we all know that either chemo, radiation or both must
follow.
Mary, had her first
chemotherapy treatment [March 17, 2003] with 3 more to follow and
than the radiation treatments will start [5 treatments per week
for 6 weeks].
During this time,
she will not be able to work for approximately 6-7 months from the
time of the surgery. This is where you can step in and can help
Mary.
This is the reason for this
fund raiser campaign
A special bank account has been created for Mary.
Money from direct deposit donations, a raffle for a prize provided
by a local business, or any other ideas to raise the money Mary
will need, will be most appreciated.
Fund
raising campaigns like this have always been helpful, successful
but more so, appreciated by the recipient. To see how you or
your business/organization can help Mary, please click the link
below at the bottom of this page.
Mary's 15 year old
son, Justin, involved in sports at Placer High School in Auburn
is in need too. He has proven to be an asset to all the teams he
has participated in and knowing how expensive sports can be, with
uniforms, equipment and accessories, what ever additions he will
need in the next 6-7 months, Mary will not be able to take care
of.
Help Justin fulfill
the simple pleasures of participating in the sports he enjoys in
high school. Click "Meet Justin."
