NAEVI '99 Conference & Expo
(North American Electric Vehicle and Infrastructure Conference and Exposition)

NAEVI'99, hosted and sponsored by the Electric Vehicle Association of the Americas (EVAA), was the North American electric vehicle industry's largest gathering of industry experts and the most extensive trade show of electric vehicles and associated equipment. The conference was designed to demonstrate the industry's impressive technological momentum and continuing progress toward commercial development in North America. Representives from the auto industry, automotive suppliers, electric utilities, and government policy makers from federal, state and local agencies gathered to discuss and implement alternative means of transportation to combat poor air quality resulting from gas powered vehicles. The EV technologies on display included battery-powered EV's, hybrid EV's and fuel cell EV's ranging in size from bicycles, passenger cars, small trucks to buses.

The conference & Expo held November 17-20, 1999 took place in Atlanta Georgia's prestigious Cobb Galleria Centre and brought together over 400 EV experts globally to discuss present and future automotive design and technology advancements. Companies sporting EV's at the Expo included:

Featured speakers included U.S. Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater, Georgia Governor Roy Barnes and A.W. "Bill" Dahlberg, chairman and CEO of Atlanta-based Southern Company, the largest electric utility in the U.S.. In addition to the two-day conference and Media Day on Wednesday, November 17, the
event included a Public Day on Saturday, November 20.

To help make the public more aware of the need to implement EV alternative means of transportation, a "EV Public Day Ride'n'Drive" gave visitors the opportunity to drive electric vehicles, see a plethora of options in EV car technologies and speak to representives about this new most desireable clean and quiet transportation option.
